Together Marathon County is making it easier to volunteer and connect with your community

What is Together Marathon County?

Together Marathon County is a collective of nonprofits, volunteers, and community partners working to transform how our region approaches volunteering. We connect people who want to help with organizations that need support, while building the capacity of nonprofits, partnering with employers to engage their teams, and creating a mobilized community of contributors ready to respond to local needs.

More than a volunteer platform, we’re a support backbone that strengthens the entire ecosystem of giving back. When nonprofits thrive, when volunteers feel valued, and when employers can easily engage their teams in meaningful service, communities become more resilient, connected, and capable of rising to meet any challenge together.

Stronger Together

We chose the aspen tree as our symbol because it represents connection and shared strength. Aspen groves are linked by a common root system beneath the surface, allowing the entire grove to grow and thrive together. Together Marathon County is built on that same principle—connecting people, organizations, and resources to strengthen our community.

Our Philosophy

You belong here

We believe everyone has something to give - and everyone deserves to feel valued, welcomed, and needed.

This hub exists to help you step in, show up, and feel proud of how you contribute - whether it’s once a year or every weekend. If you’ve ever wondered, “Is there a place for my talents?” - the answer is yes. You belong here.

Volunteering should be easy

Most people want to help, but the process sometimes gets in the way. We believe a clear onboarding process is what empowers action. This hub is built to help volunteers take the first step. When saying yes feels simple, more people raise their hand - and that’s how our community gets more engaged.

Lifting up volunteer engagement leader

Behind every great cause is a volunteer engagement leader holding the pieces together. We see you. We know you’re juggling recruiting, scheduling, filling last-minute gaps, managing endless communications, all on tight budgets - and still showing up with heart.

This hub exists not just to connect volunteers, but to support you. We build tools and resources that streamline recruiting, and give you time back, so you can focus on building relationships /meaningful roles so you can further the mission.

Building community through volunteering

Volunteering is about getting things done. It’s also about how it changes us. Studies show that when people volunteer, they feel less lonely, live healthier, and even live longer. Simply knowing there are opportunities to connect can improve a person’s outlook and sense of belonging.

It’s the laughter while setting up tables, the conversations while sharing a task, the feeling that you’re part of something bigger. That connection - human, hopeful, real - is why people come back to volunteer again and again.

This Hub exists to make that easy: to serve, to connect, and to build the kind of resilient, healthy community where everyone can thrive.

Rising together

We believe the rising tide lifts all boats. Every nonprofit, business, school, and resident has a part to play in the story of this community — and when we share resources, share credit, and share the work, everyone benefits. When we work toward the common goal of strengthening the volunteer network as a whole, there is no competition. We are committed to partnering with our community to make it easier for more people to get involved and to multiply the good that comes from it. Because where generosity leads, impact grows.

Your time matters

Time is the most valuable resource anyone could give.

This Hub is built to honor your time. We make sign-ups simple, communication automatic, and tracking effortless, so volunteers can spend their energy giving back, and coordinators can spend more energy leading instead of managing logistics.

Together Marathon County, in their words

“Together Marathon County and the BA & Esther Greenheck Foundation have been an invaluable partner in strengthening my work as a volunteer coordinator. Their trainings, networking opportunities, and ongoing support have provided practical tools and a sense of connection that’s often hard to find in this role. The Volunteer Hub reflects the collaborative spirit that makes our community stronger.”

Kathy Grall

Habitat for Humanity ReStore Manager & Volunteer Coordinator

“As the Volunteer Manager at Good News Project, my connection with the Together Marathon County Volunteer Hub has been incredibly meaningful. Being part of this nonprofit community asset has strengthened my confidence as a coordinator and reminded me that we’re not doing this work alone. The collaboration, shared learning, and ongoing support has helped make our volunteer program at Good News Project stronger and more sustainable.”

Rouleen Gartner

Volunteer Manager of Good News Project

When people feel connected, they take pride in where they live. Communities thrive when people feel like they belong.
